If you want your ICC to cover the use of Personal Watercraft (Jet Skis), the recognised route is to complete the RYA Personal Watercraft Proficiency Course.
Since 2021, this qualification has been the only way to apply for an ICC that specifically includes Personal Watercraft on the certificate.
This course teaches safe and responsible riding, manoeuvring skills, and essential safety knowledge, while also giving you the qualification required to apply for your ICC with Personal Watercraft included.
Completing this course with North Oxford Marine Training means you gain both practical riding skills and the certification needed for riding abroad where proof of competence may be required.
If you're planning to cruise the canals and rivers of Europe, you may also need to demonstrate knowledge of the inland waterway rules.
To apply for an ICC valid on inland waters, you will normally need to pass the CEVNI Test (Code Européen des Voies de la Navigation Intérieure), which covers the rules and signs used on European inland waterways.
At North Oxford Marine Training, we make this simple by offering access to the CEVNI online test through one of our trusted third-party partners. This allows you to complete the test conveniently and submit the certificate alongside your ICC application.
Although it is not a mandatory part of the ICC, many European countries require skippers of vessels, particularly charter vessels, to hold a valid VHF Operator’s Licence.
The RYA Short Range (VHF) Operator’s Certificate ensures you are properly qualified to operate marine VHF radio equipment when cruising abroad. We offer support and training locally here in Banbury, Oxfordshire.
Courses are available in both online and classroom formats, allowing you to choose the learning style that suits you best.
