North Oxford Marine Training is delighted to be hosting a range of RYA Shorebased Instructor Courses in March 2026, providing an excellent opportunity for aspiring and existing instructors to gain RYA qualifications at our Shorebased Centre.
See below details of the courses we are hosting in 2026:
1-day course – Monday 16 March 2026
The RYA Teaching in the Classroom course provides the core skills needed to deliver effective shore-based training. It focuses on lesson planning, presentation techniques and managing a classroom environment.
This course is a prerequisite for most RYA shore-based instructor and assessor qualifications and does not expire.
Required Certificates/Experience
None
Some previous experiencing instructing or training is helpful however.
2-day course – Tuesday & Wednesday 17–18 March 2026
An SRC Assessor is qualified to teach and assess candidates for the RYA Marine Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC/VHF).
Ideal for experienced radio users looking to teach the specialist 1 Day SRC/VHF Course and also support online SRC/VHF Course Candidates.
Required Certificates/Experience
Requires a valid SRC (or higher) GMDSS marine radio qualification.
Recommended to have completed or observed an RYA SRC course (online or classroom) within the last five years
One of the following:
RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence, or
RYA practical instructor certificate in any discipline
1-day course – Monday 23 March 2026
The RYA First Aid Instructor qualification allows you to teach the RYA First Aid 1 Day Course, tailored to the marine environment.
Suitable for those with strong first aid knowledge who want to pass on vital lifesaving skills.
Required Certificates/Experience
Must hold a minimum of 3-day First Aid at Work (FAW) certificate or higher.
Requires a valid SRC (or higher GMDSS marine radio qualification)
Evidence of competence in recreational boating demonstrated by RYA Yachtmaster Offshore or an RYA Instructor certificate in a practical discipline.
Recommended:
RYA Sea Survival or STCW Personal Survival Techniques
RYA First Aid Certificate, or have observed a course being delivered in the last 5 years
2-day course – Tuesday & Wednesday 24–25 March 2026 (£346)
A Shorebased Navigation Instructor is qualified to teach RYA Navigation courses including: Essential Navigation, Day Skipper Theory and Yachtmaster Theory.
Ideal for experienced navigators who enjoy teaching theory in a classroom setting and passing on their navigational knowledge.
Required Certificates/Experience
RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence or RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor
Strong navigation knowledge and experience
Successfully completed the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased course. If the course was not completed recently it is important that candidates refresh their knowledge of the whole syllabus.
