RYA VHF/SRC Radio Course

The RYA VHF/SRC course and exam is for anyone who owns a fixed or handheld marine VHF radio.

A marine radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board a boat and it is vital to understand the correct procedures to use this equiptment properly.

The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio either fixed or hand held.

Anyone wanting to commercially endorse an RYA/MCA Certificate of competence certificate requires an SRC licence as part of this application process. Similarly a number of boat clubs and charter companies require members to hold an SRC Licence in order to take charge/skipper one of their vessels.

Course Format

The SRC Course is 10 hours in length + an exam broken into 3 parts as below:

*you can attend the SRC Course without choosing to sit the exam. However, please note you will not be issued with an SRC Licence
