For many, boating often starts as a hobby but it can grow into a rewarding career. From running fishing or charter trips to delivering vessels, instructing at an advanced level, or supporting marine businesses, commercial opportunities on the water are vast! With the right qualifications, you can operate confidently and professionally, turning your passion into a source of income or even a full time profession.
UK regulations are clear. If a vessel is used to earn money beyond simply sharing costs like fuel or berthing, both the vessel and the skipper must meet commercial compliance standards. This means:
The skipper must hold the appropriate qualification with a valid Commercial Endorsement.
The vessel must meet all required coding and safety standards.
Without this endorsement, you cannot legally operate commercially even part time.
Commercial Endorsements are issued by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA). Full details on requirements, eligibility, and the application process are available on the RYA website.
We understand that every skipper’s journey is unique. Whether you already hold one, two, or none of the necessary qualifications, we will work with you to create a bespoke training and support package that suits your experience, goals, and schedule. This could be as simple as working with you to set up shorebased training courses we offer directly, or linking you in with other centres to support with waterbased training. The journal starts the moment you make an enquiry.
